Artists from the international platform for performance art – formerly known as PAErsche, now PAE Aktionslabor since 2023 – provide insights into their networking activities, projects, and collective working methods in public spaces: “For us, performance is not a completed artwork but a process of encounter, irritation, and discovery.”
The discussion also serves as preparation for an “Open Source Performance,” which will take place in the dystopian-surreal atmosphere of the decommissioned fountain installation, designed in 1990 by landscape architect Prof. Lange.
Elke Mark (associated artist, PAE) writes:
” Single individuals open up the ‘ playing field ’ until gradually other performers join in and follow their impulses. A structure emerges that resembles a mobile or a swarm (…). Elements of interaction alternate with seemingly parallel sequences of actions. The one- to two-hour event resembles exploratory work that is not interested in confirming or rejecting previously established theories, but rather sees itself as an open process—seeking as yet unknown answers to questions that the experimenter is also unable to clarify.”
